GERMANIA DISMISSES WILHELM II

(Germania entlässt Wilhelm II)

 

1918, Cast bronze, Satirical medal, 59.4mm, 54.95g.

 

Obverse:  Wilhelm, as a child, receives his report card from Germania. Inscription in border, "Entlassen • wegen • Unfähigkeit" (Dismissed because of incompetence). K-G in exergue.

 

Reverse:  Wilhelm lies on a high wall; Clemenceau stands at the base of a wall titled "Amerongen" and calling to him, "Wilhelm sollst mal runterkommen" (Wilhelm, you are to come down), with the intention to extradite him from his domicile in Holland for trial.

Goetz based this medal on the request of the Entente to have the Emperor extradited from Holland for a trial. The request was never granted.
