THE GERMAN-FRENCH ARMISTICE

 

1940, Struck Silver Commemorative Medal, 60mm.,  Rim-stamp, BAYER.HAUPTMÜNZAMT.FEINSILBER  

 

Obverse:  On June 22, 1940, (the medal shows erroneously a June 21 date) an Armistice was concluded by France with Germany at Compiegne in the railway carriage where Marshal Foch had dictated terms to the German delegation on November 11, 1918.

 

Reverse:  "In the historical carriage in the forest of Compiegne ended the tragedy of German disgrace which started here on November 11, 1918."
