ITALY'S WITHDRAWAL FROM THE TRIPLE ALLIANCE

(Baralong Mörder)

 

1914, Cast bronze, Satirical medal, 57.3mm, 63.60g, Frankenhuis 1430.

 

Obverse:  A big hand — (on the cuff is a Union Jack) — holding a dagger. Across the shield, "19. Aug. 1915" and a laurel branch. In border, "Baralong-Moerder" (Baralong murder).

 

Reverse:  King of England conferring a decoration upon Captain of S.S. Baralong ; by his side, the Queen, holding a laurel wreath with ribbons inscribed, "Den Kultur Kampfern" (To the champions of culture). In border, "Heimkehr des Siegers" (Conqueror returning home).
